How To Get A Glow Up: Tips For Improving Your Face Beauty

Your face may be the first thing people notice about you, but that doesn’t mean you have to settle for it being less than beautiful! Your face holds your eyes, nose, and mouth—all of which are important to making sure your face has the beauty and appeal it deserves. You can achieve this by taking steps to improve your overall health and look. The tips below will help you get started.

Hydrate

Drinking water helps maintain clear, glowing skin. This is because it prevents dehydration, which can exacerbate problems like acne, dryness and sunburn. Water also aids in flushing out toxins from your body through your sweat and urine; studies show that people who drink eight glasses of water every day (or more) have more energy than those who don't. If you're wondering why exactly you should be drinking that much H2O, consider these five benefits of drinking water!

Moisturize

It can seem boring, but toner is really important if you want glowing skin. After cleansing and while you're waiting for all that other product to sink in, dab on some toner with a cotton ball or pad. It will help close up pores and balance pH levels, which helps control oil production. Basically, it'll make everything else you do more effective by keeping your skin in tip-top shape. Our favorite high-performance formula is Peter Thomas Roth's Green Tea Antioxidant Skin Therapy Toner—it's packed with hydrating ingredients like aloe vera juice, glycerin, and green tea extract (which contains antioxidants), so your skin won't be dry or flaky.

Use Toner

When you’re finished cleansing and exfoliating, don’t forget to tone! Don’t know what toner is? It’s an alcohol-based liquid that helps tighten pores and restore pH balance. It also helps remove any excess dirt or residue left over from removing makeup, shaving, etc. A lot of women skip it because they think it stings; if that happens, just dilute some with water (the ratio will depend on how sensitive your skin is). To use it as part of your daily routine, mix some with witch hazel or rose water and apply with a cotton ball.

Exfoliate

If you notice that you’re struggling with acne, or have some nasty scarring from past breakouts, it might be time to consider exfoliating. A good exfoliator will remove any dead skin cells or gunk buildup on your face, leaving a cleaner surface that allows topical creams and serums to penetrate better. Exfoliating can be done in different ways—you can purchase chemical peels or at-home facial scrubs, but doing it naturally is simple enough. First, splash warm water on your face before bed every night—this helps loosen dead skin cells and gently remove them overnight. Then make sure you rinse thoroughly in the morning so you don’t clog up your pores!

Find Products that Work For You

If you’re only using one product and it’s not working well, then try out others. Test, test, test and find products that work for you. What works for me may not work best for you. If a product doesn’t make your skin feel soft and smooth or it dries it out, don’t use it!

Avoid Acne Prone Skin Care Ingredients

Dry, sensitive skin can lead to breakouts. Look for moisturizers and cleansers that are labeled as non-comedogenic or oil-free; these products won’t clog pores and may help prevent acne. Be on guard against ingredients in some products that can cause allergic reactions, such as fragrances, dyes and certain preservatives like methylparaben or propylparaben. For example, try Aveeno Ultra-CalmingTM Cleanser and Aveeno Positively Radiant® Daily Moisturizer with SPF 30 – they contain soothing ingredients that help reduce redness and dryness while battling blemishes.

Always Wash Your Face in the Morning

When you wake up in the morning, immediately wash your face with cold water. This will wake up your blood vessels and will make them appear more visible. Make sure that you always use cold water because warm or hot water closes down those blood vessels and makes your skin look duller. You should repeat this step twice a day, once when you wake up and once before bed. This can help reduce acne outbreaks if you have an oily skin type. Cooling off those oil glands will help control their production of oil. Also note that sometimes washing with warm or hot water after exercising can inflame zits on areas like forehead, nose, chin and cheeks. It's important to also use clean hands when washing your face every morning because bacteria from dirty hands can cause acne breakouts too!
